More than 50 community members attended a public engagement meeting on March 14, 2018, to provide feedback for a Plaza at City Hall.

The City Council is looking at the possibility to create a usable plaza space in front of City Hall, 100 Main Street, that could feature lawn elements, seating, water features, and more. The plaza would provide a public place for people to enjoy and to bring the community together for city events such as the Christmas Tree Lighting, concerts, movie screenings, and more. The designs feature a mixture of green space, outdoor seating, lighting, and water features. City staff and the consultant will be on-hand to answer questions and listen to commentary from community members.

“Community input is vital to making this an exceptional space that will be the setting for many Colleyville events, traditions, and memories,” Mayor Richard Newton said. 

The City hired Freese and Nichols, Inc. to develop the design for the Plaza at City Hall earlier this year. The group created and presented three concepts to City Council during the March 6 work session. The Council took elements from each of the designs to have two concepts presented during the public engagement meeting on March 14. The consultant will take the feedback and present a single design to City Council at an April 3 meeting. Afterward there will be an additional opportunity for community feedback.

The City purchased the land for the Plaza in 2017. The initial plan for a plaza was part of the creation of the Tax Increment Financing District (TIF) in 1998. The Plaza’s costs are dependent on the final design and chosen by City Council. The City plans to use TIF funds, a financing district that uses ad valorem revenues from several entities including Tarrant County College District, Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District, Tarrant County, and the Tarrant County Hospital District.
