The Colleyville Fire Department has teamed up with the American Red Cross to start offering hands-only CPR instruction and Red Cross certified CPR classes. Red Cross certified fire department personnel will teach these classes starting this summer. The hands-only training offers a simple approach to teaching someone how to keep a victim alive until first responders can get to the scene. “Hands-only CPR is a valuable life-saving technique to know,” explained Colleyville Fire Chief Mark Cantrell. “Just having the proper technique could help save lives.”

According to the American Heart Association, the chance of survival from a cardiac arrest increases significantly when CPR is started immediately. Immediate CPR from someone nearby can double or even triple their chance of survival.

The first hands-only class is scheduled for Saturday, June 1 from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Central Colleyville Fire Station. This class is free for Colleyville residents to attend. Fore more information, contact the Colleyville Fire Department at 817.503.1400.
