Governor Abbott Issues New Executive Order to Reopen Texas

In a press conference earlier this afternoon, Governor Greg Abbott announced he will be rescinding the majority of his COVID-19-related statewide mandates next week with Executive Order GA-34. Please see below for order details.

Executive Order GA-34

•Executive Order GA-34 takes effect at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2021
•All businesses may operate at 100% occupancy
•There is no state-mandated mask requirement
•Businesses may choose to require customers to wear masks or follow other hygiene measures
•If a trauma service area reaches a COVID-19 hospitalization percentage of 15% or higher for 7 consecutive days, the county judge may implement COVID-19 mitigation strategies, except for the following:
–Businesses may not be required to operate at less than 50% occupancy
–No operating limits imposed on religious services, public or private schools, higher education, or child-  care services
–No jurisdiction may impose confinement in jail as a penalty for violating any order
–No jurisdiction may impose a penalty of any kind for failure to wear a mask or failure to mandate that customers or employees wear a mask
–A jurisdiction may enforce trespassing laws at the request of a business
•Executive Order GA-34 supersedes any conflicting order issued by local officials in response to COVID-19
