On Tuesday, the City Council approved three Resolutions opposing bills from the Texas Legislature that if passed would damage Colleyville by forever changing the character of our City. The bills are an affront to local control, taking authority away from councilmembers to govern the very cities they were elected to serve.
SB1787 and HB3921 are identical and impose high density standards for any city within a county with a population of 300,000 or more. Under these bills, a city cannot impose or enforce an ordinance that would require lot size greater than 1,400 square feet and anything less than 31.1 lots per acre. To put that into perspective, under these bills a 15-acre plot of land could have 467 houses. This flies in the face of what is unique about Colleyville, not to mention all the other problems this would create for our infrastructure that was not built to handle such density.
HB2665 would essentially prohibit a city from any type of regulation of short term rentals. Under this bill, Colleyville would have no ability to regulate duration of stay, number of occupants, or prohibit shorter term rentals all together.
